Hangar 51 exclusively available to Axe District Scouts!

  • What is Hangar 51?
Hi, I'm Dexter - a Scout from 1st Locking and Hutton. I've been helping my dad convert a huge military hangar into the ultimate indoor GelFire and Nerf arena. Locking Scouts have already tried it out and said "it's just like a video game, but in real life!" Gelfire@Hangar 51 is now exclusively available to Axe District Scouts for half price until the end of the year. All proceeds from any bookings I can get before the end of the year will be donated to my Scout Groups fundraising campaign to go to Kandersteg International Scout Centre in 2026.
  • What is Gelfire?
Gelfire is a safe but fun way to bring battle games to life. It's similar to paintball but without the pain or mess and can be played indoors. With automatic and semi-auto fire your Scouts will love the all new experience of Gelfire. The hydrated UV ammo glows in the dark and looks just like live-tracer fire. The gels leave no stains or marks and doesn't hurt. Your Scouts will love this.
  • Where is Hangar 51?
Hangar 51 is located at Mendip Activity Centre between Sandford and Churchill. It is easy to find and parking is free.
  • What does it include?
Hangar 51 is a military hangar from Camp Bastion reimagined into an indoor battle arena with LED and UV lighting, lasers, smoke machines, metal bunkers, speakers and interactive digital targets. You'll get exclusive use of the facility for up to two hours with 90 minutes of activities included. This allows 15 minutes at the start and end of the session for any formalities, notices, investitures etc. - 45 minutes of Nerf battles with foam darts - 45 minutes of GelFire battles - Instructor - 25,000 UV tracer GelFire rounds - Safety masks - Free parking 25,000 rounds of ammo should be plenty if you play the suggested games and limit excessive automatic fire. If your Scouts get too trigger happy and run out of ammo we can revert back to Nerf battles.
  • What does it exclude?
It includes everything you'll need. You'll just need to bring your usual Leaders and helpers to help supervise the activity and help us ensure the risk assessment is followed and the equipment is respected.
  • How much does it cost?
It is half price until the end of the year for Axe District Scouts. £125 instead of £250 for two hours exclusive hire of the Hangar and all proceeds are being donated to 1st Locking and Hutton's campaign to raise funds for our summer camp to Kandersteg International Scout Centre. It includes 45 minutes of Nerf battles and 45 minutes of GelFire battles. It includes all the safety equipment, bunkers, interactive digital targets, UV lights, smoke machine, speakers plus 25,000 rounds of hydrated UV glow in the dark ammo. I'll be there along with an instructor to lead the activity. This package is perfect for any number of Scouts. If you have more than 16 they can take it in turns in the battle zone.
  • When can we do it?
It must be before the end of this year. However, due to school, clubs and homework commitments I can only do one group a week. With a little notice I can do any week night evening to suit you. Bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis.
  • Does it hurt?
You can feel when you have been hit but it doesn't hurt. It's just like being hit by a Nerf foam dart or elastic band. Safety goggles are provided and mandatory at all times for everyone in the battle zone.
  • Is it safe?
Yes. Nerf is an approved Scout activity and Gelfire can even count towards your Master at Arms badge. Safety goggles are provided and mandatory at all times for everyone in the battle zone. The blasters are equipped with safety switches and can be easily powered down. The activity has been risk assessed and all the safety equipment required is provided.
  • How do I book?
Simply fill out the booking request form at the bottom of this page and let me know details of your group and preferred dates and times. I will confirm your booking or suggest alternate if necessary via email within a couple of days. Payment can be made in cash on the night.
  • Axe GelFire Tournament
Next summer I plan to arrange an Axe District GelFire Tournament at Mendip Activity Centre, so all the troops in Axe can battle against each other to see who emerges victorious. There will be prizes and pizza! More details to follow.
